Not all couples go to bed at the same time, but it turns out they could be a lot happier if they did.
A new Talker survey, conducted on behalf of Avocado Green Mattress, finds that the less “bedtime gaps” a couple has, the happier they are likely to be.
According to the survey, the average couple experiences a bedtime gap of about 80 minutes multiple times a week. And while that’s not exactly grounds for divorce, couples who describe themselves as “very happy” tend to go to bed together about three times a week. Those that say they are less than happy only go to bed at the same time about once a week.
It also helps if couples’ sleep patterns are similar, with 71% of couples who say they are both night owls and 78% of those who are both early birds saying they are “very happy,” as opposed to only 59% of those where one is a night owl and the other an early bird.
As for the most common reasons why couples who go to bed at the same time are happier, they include the importance of increasing intimacy (59%) and feeling closer to one’s spouse (58%).
