If you’re someone who’s planning a winter getaway, know that you are definitely not alone.
Tripadvisor just released the results of its annual Winter Travel Index. It turns out 60% of travelers are planning a trip this winter season, with 83% planning one to two getaways and 54% planning to stay at least five nights.
Of course, money could be an issue, but it seems most people aren’t letting that stop them: 52% of people say they will be spending more on their winter travel this year.
And while you may think most people want to escape to warmer climates during the colder winter months, that’s not exactly true. In fact, the most popular global destination for domestic travelers is a pretty cold one, New York City. That’s followed by Las Vegas, London and Key West, Florida.
The top global destination for international travelers isn’t all that warm either, with London coming out on top, followed by Bangkok, Thailand; Cancun, Mexico; and Paris.
As for what folks are hoping to do on their trips, 84% are focusing on activities, with cultural sightseeing the most preferred thing to do (38%), followed by nature sightseeing (37%) and shopping (31%).
