A lot of folks will be driving to get to their holiday destinations this year, but you may be surprised to find out just how long they’ll spend behind the wheel.
A new Talker Research poll, on behalf of Jiffy Lube, finds that 47% of people say they’ll be driving to their holiday festivities this year, with drivers spending about 13 hours in their car. But some will spend even more, with 11% saying they expect to spend over 30 hours driving.
The biggest reason most plan to drive this holiday season is to cut down on spending, with 53% citing that as the reason, while 50% say it’s the most comfortable way to travel. Another 43% enjoy the flexibility of having their car with them, while 37% point to driving as being the best way to get their gifts to their destination.
Of course, there are downsides to driving, with 29% saying they’re happy when their driving is over, and another 17% saying driving is exhausting.
But exhaustion won’t keep people from making sure those they love get to their holiday celebrations, with the average driver saying they’d travel 172 miles to pick up a loved one, and 5% even willing to drive 700 miles to do so.
