Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Update – Ferry Fire | June 15, 2025

Central Oregon — Firefighters have made significant progress on the Ferry Fire, it is currently 10,458 acres and 65%

contained. The slight acreage growth since yesterday is due to interior pockets of unburned fuel burning, the fire

perimeter did not grow. The north/northwest side of the fire is fully contained and the fire area edge along the John Day

River will continue to be monitored and mopped up as hotspots are found.

Yesterday crews hiked into the hard to access areas along the southern edge of the fire, securing the fires edge.

Firefighters completed mop-up efforts in Cottonwood State Park, ensuring safe access to river users, as the BLM John

Day River closure was lifted yesterday. Air resources were available to crews all day but were not needed. Late in the

afternoon a new fire start was reported on the Deschutes River west of the Highway 197/97 junction. Two handcrews

and two engines from the Ferry Fire supported the initial attack of the new start, which was stopped at 51 acres.

Today firefighting resources will continue to work the areas of the Ferry Fire that are not yet considered fully contained.

Many resources will be returning to their home units and or reassigned to other incidents in preparation for the Central

Oregon Type 3 Incident Management Team to give command of the fire to a local Type 4 Incident Commander on

Monday. The local IC will continue working with resources to monitor and insure the containment of the fire.

Weather in the fire area is predicted to continue to be temperatures in the mid 70’s with lighter west/northwest winds

than previous days.

Residents and visitors to the area are encouraged to stay updated and follow any directions from fire personnel in the

vicinity.

Evacuation levels were adjusted and lowered in some areas within Sherman County yesterday. To sign up for and
