Today is Women Veterans Day, honoring the 77th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which allowed woman to permanently serve on active duty in the armed services, as well as the countless acts of bravery honorably performed by women veterans and service members throughout our nation’s history.
Today, women represent nearly 10% of Oregon’s veteran population, with more than 26,000 women veterans currently residing in Oregon. The number of women veterans continues to increase, and Oregon will never falter in our commitment to ensure every woman veteran receives full access to the recognition and full range of benefits and resources you have earned through your service.
On this day, ODVA and the state of Oregon recognize and honor all women who have served in the United States Armed Forces: past, present, and future. We see you. We thank you. We honor your stories. We remember those who have gone before. And we stand with you as we look proudly toward a still brighter future.
