A pair of hikers were high on more than just the great outdoors. So much so that they thought their friend was dead.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers reports that two hikers on a Cascade Mountain trail had contacted 911 saying that the third member of their party had died. When they came across a summit steward, they said that they were lost. That’s when the steward noticed the hikers were in an “altered mental state,” caused by ingesting hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Eventually the third, supposedly dead, hiker was found very much alive and not injured. A ranger brought the tripping hikers, who we suspect may have been literally tripping in addition to figuratively so, to an ambulance, while the third was escorted back to their campsite.
