Honestly, same: Prehistoric kangaroos would rather be ‘chilling at home’

If the idea of going out exhausts you, then you have something in common with a giant prehistoric kangaroo.

According to The Guardian, a new study shows that the protemnodons kangaroo species, which lived in Australia between 5 million and 40,000 years ago and weighed up to nearly 375 pounds, spent most of its time hanging out around the caves it called home.

“These gigantic kangaroos were just chilling at home, eating the rainforest leaves, because there were heaps of them around,” says study co-author Dr. Scott Hocknull. “That also means that the environment was quite stable. It meant that over hundreds of thousands of years, these animals decided that staying put was a good bet.”

Eventually, though, that lounging around caught up to the kangaroos, as change in climate presented a greater risk of extinction to a species that wasn’t leaving their home environment very often.

We will be channeling our inner prehistoric kangaroo as we cancel plans in favor of watching a movie we’ve seen several hundred times.
