Maybe let’s not scan the QR code sticker on a gravestone

An unidentified German vandal is apparently trying to bring more technology to gravesites.

According to The Associated Press, someone has stuck over 1,000 QR code stickers onto gravestones and wooden crosses throughout three Munich cemeteries.

While getting someone to scan a QR code on a grave sounds like the 2020s version of opening a portal to the netherworld, it instead simply displays the name of the person buried there and the location in the cemetery.

“We haven’t found any pattern behind this yet,” a police spokesperson tells the AP. “The stickers were put both on decades-old gravestones and very new graves that so far only have a wooden cross.”

While the line dividing the Earth and the forces of darkness remains intact, the stickers have at least caused an inconvenience, leaving discoloration and damage to the gravestones once removed.
