If you’re going to spend $40 million on a new mansion, it’s probably a good idea to make sure you’re the only ones living in the house.
Such was not the case for Iya Patarkatsishvili and Dr. Yevhen Hunyak, who, according to The Guardian, purchased a home in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London for eight figures, only to discover that it was infested with moths.
The couple has since been refunded their money after taking the seller to court, alleging that they were swatting about 100 moths every day. They were paid back the original price, minus about $7.5 million for the time they spent using the property since initially buying the home in 2019.
The case’s judge also ordered the property’s developers to pay about $5 million in moth-related damages.
Perhaps all of this could’ve been avoided if the seller had turned off every light in the house.
