Don’t use your speakerphone on the train, s’il vous plaît

A passenger’s trip on a French train left his wallet a little lighter, and we’re not talking about the fare.

According to CNN, the passenger was talking to his sister on the phone while waiting at a station when he was flagged down by a rail official. Why? He was talking on speakerphone.

The passenger was told that he’d receive a fine of about $155 if he didn’t end the speakerphone conversation. At first he thought it was a joke — but then he was handed a ticket.

He ended up with an even larger fine, about $206, since he didn’t pay it right away.

While it seems that everything is more expensive these days, it probably would’ve been cheaper for the passenger to invest in a simple pair of headphones.
