Travel tops Americans’ bucket list wishes

According to a new survey from Choice Mutual, 95% of Americans have a bucket list — that is, things they want to do before they kick the bucket.

Thirty-three percent of them, in fact, have even written it down.

That said, what are the most common items on our lists? According to the new poll, travel is big: more than 50% want to visit landmarks in Europe, which took the top slot.

At a little over 43%, Americans wanted to visit our own landmarks, which took second on the survey, followed closely by 41% who want to learn a new language.

Coming in fourth was a lofty one: 39% want to become a millionaire, while rounding out the top five was a more achievable one: taking a cruise (36.8%).

Number four is especially fitting because 86% of the respondents say their financial situation stands between them and checking off their items.

That said, not every wish was super spendy: 25.3% say they want a tattoo, while 23.6% want to hike a specific trail.

For the record, residents in Wisconsin had the longest bucket lists, with 24.9 items on theirs — but that was followed respectively by people in New Jersey, Maine and Maryland, who all had 24 and change. According to the poll, folks in Arkansas had the shortest, with just over 13 items on theirs.
