Hail to the sheesh: Poll shows a majority of Americans think both presidential candidates are “embarrassing”

A new Pew poll shows that a majority of Americans can’t even with the 2024 election in November — and it’s only July.

The new survey of more than 7,700 people shows 63% of them think both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are “embarrassing.”

Further, 87% say the election season doesn’t make them feel proud as Americans, with nearly 7 in 10 saying the 2024 campaign is already too negative.

Drilling into the specifics, just 24% now say Biden is “mentally sharp” — that’s down 6 points since January, and “considerably” lower than when he ran in 2020, according to Pew.

Conversely, more than double — 58% — describe Trump as mentally sharp. That said, 64% of those polled say Trump is “mean spirited,” versus the 31% who say that about Biden.

By demographic, Trump has a significant advantage over Biden with voters 50 and older at 48% to 39%; Biden enjoys wider support with voters under 30 versus Trump at 48% to 28%.

And while Election Day is still four months out, the Pew poll showed that hypothetically, if the election was held today, 44% would vote for Trump, 40% would vote for Biden and 15% say they’d back third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
