Sherry Munro first came to the Board of Directors of the Civic Auditorium in 2006 when she was invited to attend meetings, meet the board members, and decide if it was a good fit for her. She was then elected to the Board on January 10, 2007. She quickly became involved in many volunteer activities and learning the history of the building. Since 2006, until her retirement from the board on December 31, 2023, she helped manage the building and oversaw activities and programs at the Civic both as an elected officer of the Board and as a volunteer. You could find Sherry at the Civic on most days during all those years. She often said her work with the Civic Auditorium was a big part of her life.
Sherry supported and contributed to the Boards’ mission and vision, of preserving, restoring, and operating the historic Civic Auditorium to benefit the community and the arts, financially as well as through her thousands of hours of volunteer time. Her goal was to see this beautiful facility restored to its original splendor and make it a self-sustaining destination for events. She says working with Randy Haines and Gerald Richmond was a rewarding experience that taught her so much about the Civic and encouraged her to bring her energy and talents to keep the doors open and make a difference for the Civic and community. She received a plaque to commemorate her contributions at the 101-year celebration held in May 2023. That plaque will hang in the Civic main lobby.
Sherry was devoted to the buildings’ dedication to all veterans (the building was originally dedicated to World War I Veterans) and to the history of the building. She was active in the choice of historic elements including paint, lighting, draperies, etc.
Sherry is also a long-standing member of The Dalles Kiwanis, and especially loves working with youth. She perseveres as a volunteer in our community and is a role model for us all.
The Civic Board sends a heartfelt Thank you to Sherry for all that she has contributed over the years!
