Citizens adversely affected by wildfires last year are urged by Republican Representative Suzanne Schmidt to apply for federal disaster relief.
Applications can now be filed for Small Business Administration low-interest loans and grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“This is such great news.”
Republican Representative Suzanne Schmidt of Spokane Valley upon hearing that citizens who suffered damages from wildfires in 2023 can begin the process of receiving relief.
“I hope that they feel that we’ve been listening to ’em and that we’ve been working with them and for them since this horrible disaster happened.”
Schmidt suggests anyone recovering from a loss from the fires may be eligible.
“This is for people that lost farm equipment – maybe they even lost crops – maybe they had a hay field that burned down, they lost their barn.”
Schmidt is co-sponsor of House Bill 1899, authored by Representative Mike Volz, that would provide assistance to people rebuilding their homes after a wildfire. The measure is awaiting a Senate vote.
