While the New York City skyline currently boasts the tallest structure in the country, the 1776-foot-tall One World Trade Center, it could soon be topped by a building in … Oklahoma.
Developers have given the OK to a complex called the Boardwalk at Bricktown, located in the capital of Oklahoma City. Among its four planned towers is one that would stand 1,907 feet tall, the Oklahoma City Free Press reports.
The height was revised to commemorate the year the state was inducted into the union.
That said, the myriad zoning changes that would be required to transform what the paper describes as a “moderately-sized L shaped parking lot” into a complex that would be home to the fifth-tallest building in the world, will be a steep hill to climb.
That’s because the area is currently only zoned for buildings no taller than 300 feet.
Scot Matteson, CEO of Matteson Capital, the developer behind the project, said in a statement, “We believe that this development will be an iconic destination for the city. He added, “We hope to see The Boardwalk at Bricktown stand as the pride of Oklahoma City.”
For the record, the tallest building in the world remains the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, at 2,717 feet. Mission: Impossible fans know it as the building Tom Cruise climbed in Ghost Protocol.
