If you’re looking to get happy, a new survey says head to the Beehive State.
That’s because Utah has topped the list of the Happiest States in the U.S. for 2023, according to a survey from the folks at WalletHub.
The site’s financial wonks crunched the numbers on emotional and physical well-being, work environment and community and environment. Within that, each state was analyzed for factors including depression rates, unemployment statistics, the rate of divorce and which states get the most sleep. When they put their calculators down, Utah ranked as number one for this year.
With just 50% of Americans feeling “very satisfied” with the way their personal life is going, according to their polling, you could probably use a pick me up.
Last year’s #1, Hawaii, slipped to second place, with Maryland and Minnesota coming in third and fourth, respectively.
Fifth happiest might come as a surprise: New Jersey.
The data also revealed Coloradans get the most sleep in the U.S., likely thanks to all the potential to get outside, and, of course, all the legal weed. West Virginia had the highest rate of adult depression.
Not surprisingly, the Mountain State ranked as the least happy state in the Union.
