Group of Adults & Children rescued near Trout Lake

On 04/04/2023, at approximately 7:42 PM, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance near the Forest Service 8860 Road, outside of Trout Lake, Washington. Four adults and four children were traveling from Lone Butte Sno-Park and en route to Takhlakh Lake when the two utility terrain vehicles they were utilizing became disabled.

Two adults and one child from the party of eight began walking from their location back towards Lone Butte Sno-Park. Klickitat County Search and Rescue personnel, along with several local volunteers, assisted the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office in locating and transporting all individuals to Flat Top Sno-Park where they were provided medical evaluations.

After a nine-hour long mission, the subjects were returned to their vehicles at Lone Butte Sno-Park in good condition.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office wants to use this opportunity as a reminder to be prepared for continuing winter-like conditions and the risks involved with venturing out into the remote areas of our county.
