A few drunk men: Ukraine’s war effort bolstered by boozy drivers

Of course drunk driving is a menace, but the country of Latvia is turning the crime into something positive — by donating drunk drivers’ confiscated vehicles to nearby Ukraine.

An organization called Agendum has shipped off the first in what will be a fleet of hundreds of vehicles law enforcement officials have taken away from drivers who were caught with blood alcohol levels above 0.15%, reports Euronews

The company normally deals in donated vehicles, but the Latvian government saw a way to better repurpose the cars and trucks that otherwise would have been auctioned or sold for parts.

Instead, they’ll help the war effort, either on the front lines or by providing transportation for Ukrainians who are in need following Russia’s invasion.

Agendum’s Reinis Pozniaks posted to Twitter on Wednesday a photo of the first shipment of vehicles on their way to the invaded country, noting in Latvian, “The journey from our garage to Ukraine begins today. One car will redeem not only alcohol but also ideological karma.”
