Much of The Dalles City Council meeting last night was taken up with local businesses upset with the purchase of the Oregon Motor Motel by Mid Columbia Community Action Council for transitional housing for houseless people. Though many organizations expressed support for the concept at the city council meeting two weeks ago, several downtown business owners spoke in opposition to the changed use at last night’s city council meeting. The most emphatic opposition was expressed by Tracy Griffiths, who said:
“What I know for sure, that this is a death sentence for The Dalles if this goes through.”
Other councilors responded that they understoon the concerns of local businesses and would move to make sure the local ordinances would enforce things appropriately.
in other business, councilors approved new agreements with the operators at the Columbia Gorge Regional Airport in Dallesport.
