Independence Day is next Monday, and with that in mind, the financial experts at WalletHub crunched the numbers regarding America’s annual birthday bash to find the best cities in America to celebrate.
Using 21 data points, including the average price of beer and wine, the weather, and the duration of fireworks shows, San Francisco, California beat out 99 other large cities as the best place to celebrate the Fourth of July this year.
Los Angeles, California was a close second followed by the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., in third place; Atlanta, Georgia ranked fourth, and Las Vegas, Nevada scored fifth.
New York City, home to the annual Macy’s fireworks display, scored sixth place; San Diego, California was seventh; Seattle, Washington made it to eighth, according to WalletHub’s estimation, with Orlando, Florida ninth and New Orleans, Louisiana rounding out the top 10.
Coming in dead last on the rankings of the best cities to celebrate our Independence Day? San Bernadino, California — which managed to underperform both Jersey City and Newark, New Jersey.
With the pandemic in the rearview mirror for most Americans, they’re apparently eager to hit the road and celebrate the Fourth: some 47.9 million Americans say they’re going to drive more than 50 miles for the holiday — nearly as many as did in 2019, in the summer before we ever heard the term “social distancing.”
