Study shows which states have the most snorers

If you live in New York, Washington D.C., or Connecticut, chances are you’re struggling every night next to someone who snores — or you’re the culprit yourself. However, those who live in the West are the least likely to do so.

Those are just some of the findings of a new poll of 2,000 American adults quizzed about their sleep situations.

While obviously annoying, having a partner who saws logs all night causes other problems for those who sleep beside them — or try to. Nearly half of those polled say being with a snorer also haunts their days, too, making them more tired because of how it affects their sleep. A quarter of those who live with someone who snores admitted to snapping at somebody the next day because of their sleep-deprived state.

Men are more apt to snore, according to the poll, which reports 51% of men do. However, women aren’t off the hook: while 57% of guys say they snore, just 46% of women cop to the fact that they saw away at night.

The snorers were also asked if anyone has described their nocturnal noises. Twenty-one percent say it’s been called a “growl,” with 16% saying it’s more like a saw. But for ten percent, and their significant others, it’s worse: They’ve been told they “roar” in their sleep, or that it sounds like a train is barreling into the bedroom with every breath.

Eight percent say their snoring more closely resembles the breathing of Darth Vader — even without the scary black helmet.

Overall, 21% consider their partner’s snoring to be their most annoying habit — even more so than leaving their shoes lying around and spending too much time on their cellphones.
