MCMC announces visionary expansion plans

Mid-Columbia Medical Center representatives made public at Wednesday’s Wasco County Commissioners meeting an ambitious expansion plan that would involve three sets of properties in The Dalles.

“We want to put forward a proposal that could be one of the most pivotal evolutions in The Dalles in a number of years,” said MCMC CEO Dennis Knox. “It’s going to encompass a new hospital campus, a modern athletic complex for our youth and adults in the area, and have schools participate as well, additional housing for the community and increased behavioral health services.”

The breakdown goes like this. The new hospital would be built on the property that now houses Kramer Fields.  A new modern Kramer sport complex would be built on the 35 acres that Wasco County will receive from Google as part of its recently-signed SIP deal, and the hospital’s acres on the hill would be developed for affordable housing.

So far, no details on funding or a timeline, but Knox flatly said the nonprofit hospital would not ask local taxpayers to pass any bond measures.
