While some states and cities claim to have the best version of certain dishes, a new survey sets the record straight.
The non-scientific poll of 2,000 Americans shows that New York City is the place for pizza — sit down, Chicago — while the state of Texas takes the prize when it comes to the country’s best barbecue. Thirty-eight percent of those polled put New York City’s pies over the Windy City’s, and 23% say Texas’ barbecue can’t be beat.
But in the poll, sponsored by Perdue for National Fried Chicken Day, it seems Americans take that particular dish VERY seriously. In fact, 78% say they’re so serious about their fried bird that “nothing less than perfection” is acceptable — and for 55% of those polled, they consider their own fried chicken superior to any they can buy at a restaurant.
That said, Kentucky was declared the best state in the country for that American staple, besting strong contenders Louisiana and Georgia, which came in second and third, respectively.
