State Rep. Chris Corry, R-Yakima, will serve as the ranking member on the House Consumer Protection and Business Committee when the 2023 legislative session begins Monday.
“From banking to insurance, this committee handles issues that impact all Washingtonians. I am excited to advocate for good policies that protect the people of our state,” said Corry. “I am honored to be selected as the ranking member for the House Consumer Protection and Business Committee.”
The House Consumer Protection and Business Committee considers consumer protection issues including licensing and regulating businesses and professions, (except for health care and law-related professions), the insurance industry, including insurance company solvency and the rates and practices of insurance companies. Also considered by the committee are financial services issues, including the safety and soundness of state banks and credit unions, the regulation of consumer credit and lending, and the regulation of securities and investments.
House Republicans also elected Corry to serve on their leadership team as Assistant Floor Leader during their caucus re-organization meeting in November.
In addition, Corry was reappointed to serve as the assistant ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee and selected to serve as a member on the re-named Innovation, Community and Economic Development, and Veterans Committee.
The House Appropriations Committee considers bills related to the operating and supplemental budgets as well as all bills with a significant fiscal impact. The House Community and Economic Development, and Veterans Committee considers bills related to community development and investment, underrepresented communities, small business assistance, and financing, telecommunications and broadband, and veteran’s issues.
The 105-day legislative session begins on Jan. 9, 2023.
