Board of Forestry hosts hybrid public meetings on Jan. 4 and 5

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Board of Forestry will meet for hybrid public meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 9:30 a.m. with a social in the evening and Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8 a.m. The meetings will be held in the Tillamook Room, Building C, at the Oregon Department of Forestry headquarters, located at 2600 State St. in Salem. The meetings will also be livestreamed on the department’s YouTube channel.

The board’s business agenda includes:

  • Oregon’s 20-Year Landscape Resiliency Strategy
  • 2022 Forest Practices Operator of the Year awards
  • Forest Trust Land Advisory Committee testimony
  • Community presentation: Log and lumber market trend changes
  • 2023 Legislative Session preparation
  • Board member recognition from Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board
  • Forestry Program for Oregon Planning work session
  • Governance for the Board of Forestry work session

On Jan. 4, the department will host an evening community social, starting at 5:30 p.m. This informal and in-person event is open to the public at Willamette University, 2nd Floor of Putnam University Center. An RSVP is not required, but a courtesy as spacing and parking is limited. RSVP to [email protected]

Live testimony is available for item #1 – State forester and board member comments. Sign-up is required and instructions to provide live testimony are available online. Sign-up closes Friday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. Written public testimony will also be accepted. Written comments can be submitted before or up to two weeks after the meeting day to [email protected] with the appropriate agenda item included with the submission. No testimony will be available for the Forestry Program for Oregon Planning and Governance for the Board of Forestry items included on the agenda, they are marked as a work session  and not open for public testimony.

The Oregon Board of Forestry consists of seven citizens nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Oregon Senate. Responsibilities include appointing the State Forester, setting management direction for state-owned forests, adopting rules governing timber harvest and other practices on private forestland, and promoting sustainable management of Oregon’s 30 million-acre forestland base. Read more information about the board.
