Wyden Statement on European Union Implementing International Tax Reform

Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement on the European Union directive to implement international tax reform:

“I’ve long believed that we need to reform our international tax system to reward those that invest in America and its workers, stop companies from shipping jobs and profit overseas, and ensure mega-corporations pay their fair share. With our foreign counterparts now moving forward on international tax reform, I hope my Republican colleagues will reconsider their opposition in this area.

“Congress must align our system with these new norms to prevent countries like China from using their tax systems to undermine the United States and to ensure American businesses and workers can compete on a level-playing field with our global competitors. If opponents continue to put their heads in the sand, it will only hurt American interests in the long run.”
