On the afternoon of 10/02/2022, a residence in the City of Condon was struck by an errant bullet. The bullet passed through a window in the living room of the residence and struck the wall opposite of the opening. Thankfully, the resident was not struck by the projectile and no one was injured. The trajectory of the bullet indicates the round was fired from the south-east of the city from quite a distance.
The incident is being investigated by the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone has information about the incident, please contact Deputy Micheal Walker at [email protected] or through Frontier Regional 911 at 541-384-2080.
This is a good time to remind everyone of the fundamentals of firearm safety:
1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded
2. Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
3. Be certain of your target and what is behind it
4. Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to kill or destroy
It is possible for a rifle bullet to travel several miles after being fired. While there is a lot of open country in Gilliam County, it is easy to forget there are people too. Please exercise caution when hunting and be sure of where that bullet may go.
