LAFC wins the Supporters Shield with a 2-1 win over Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Dénis Bouanga scored his first Major League Soccer goal in stoppage time and LAFC clinched the Supporters Shield with a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers. LAFC had secured already the top seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye with the best record in the league. It is LAFC’s second Supporters Shield in four years. The Timbers will still need to win their final match next weekend on Decision Day to determine if they will have a spot in the playoffs. Portland is currently in sixth in the Western Conference standings, above the playoff line.
Sounders’ 13-year playoff streak ends with 1-0 loss to KC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Seattle Sounders’ streak of 13 consecutive playoff appearances ended with a 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City, which got a goal from William Agada in the 41st minute. Seattle’s streak of reaching the postseason was a Major League Soccer record. The New York Red Bulls tied the Sounders’ mark by qualifying for this year’s playoffs. Agada collected a pass from Daniel Salloi and poked the ball past Stefan Frei from 8 yards.
