SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A former county sheriff in Washington state has pleaded guilty to charges relating to his role in trying to cover up his son’s alleged drunk driving incident. KREM reports former Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of rendering criminal assistance in the third degree. He was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and has one year to complete it. Mager’s son was involved in a vehicle rollover in Creston, Washington, on Feb. 11, 2021. Immediately after the crash, court documents say Magers’s son went to his parents’ house, reported the crash later and misled deputies about it.
