“Oh, that ominous pink light in the sky? Yeah, that’s the new marijuana facility”

Imagine walking out of your house one night and looking up at the sky to see it bathed in an ominous pink light. That’s what happened in one Australian town, and it perturbed the locals.

Australia’s ABC reports a massive pink light overtook the sky in Mildura without explanation, which kicked the rumor mill into full drive. Residents offered equally outrageous theories about what was causing it — from a solar flare to a new Kenny Rogers Roasters opening up in town.

Turns out — it was actually a medical marijuana facility causing the pink ruckus. Cann Group CEO Peter Crock jokingly said they caused an “Aurora marijuanis” when growing their product.

“As you might know, cannabis grows on an extended day length. The flowering zone is 12 hours light and 12 hours dark, which is normally 7am to 7pm,” he explained. “With the new zone coming into use in the next day or two, we have had the lights on.”

Crock continued, “Normally, the blackout blinds close at the same time as the sun sets, but last night we had the lights on and the blinds hadn’t yet closed, so there was a period where it created a glow. At 7pm when we put the plants to sleep, the lights went off.”

Despite a massive pink light giving away the facility’s location, Crock adds the building’s address remains undisclosed. That means he won’t be telling anyone where he’s been growing his medical marijuana.

Australia approved Cann Group’s application to grow medicinal cannabis in early July.
