Russia steps up attacks across Ukraine’s north, east, south

KRAMATORSK, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian authorities across the country are reporting new Russian missile strikes and shelling that has killed at least 16 more civilians. Those deaths come as Russia’s top military announced Saturday it was stepping up its onslaught against its neighbor. Several Russian attacks came before dawn and hit areas in the north, east and south. At least three civilians were killed and three more were injured in a Russian rocket strike on the northern Ukrainian city of Chuhuiv before dawn Saturday. Across the eastern Donetsk region, seven civilians died in Russian attacks. In the nearby Luhansk region, however, Ukrainian troops repelled a Russian overnight assault on a strategic eastern highway.
