That’s a lot of magic mushrooms …
KMOV reports that St. Charles, Missouri, police arrested a 29-year-old for growing and distributing psychedelic mushrooms. Authorities seized roughly 200 pounds of the trippy stuff and say the suspect outfitted their apartment to become a mushroom-growing haven.
In all, police say they took about $525,000 worth of magic mushrooms off the street. Police Lt. John Biser noted that he has seen an increase in shrooms and is at a loss for why they’re regaining popularity.
“It could be people’s availability to the growing materials — the spores,” he said. “It could be generational. We’re not sure why we’re seeing the increase, but it is tenfold to what we’ve seen in the past.”
He also warned of the consequences of using shrooms, saying they can permanently alter a person’s brain chemistry and their personality.
The shroom-growing culprit was arrested and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.
