Police have arrested a Frackville, Pennsylvania woman whom they claim had two men dig up the grave of her late boyfriend and steal the urn containing his ashes.
Nicole Chester, 33, was charged with one felony count of institutional vandalism and one misdemeanor count each of theft, receiving stolen property, intentional desecration of a public monument and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to The Morning Call.
Police say the incident came to light on June 21, 2021, when Kimberly Mentusky reported an urn containing the ashes of her brother-in-law was possibly stolen from a gravesite. She said the cremains were dug up shortly after burial, and also told police she believed Chester was involved.
The arresting officer contacted the Schuylkill County adult probation officer who was supervising Chester and asked if he had seen the urn in the her home. The probation officer contacted police saying he had seen it on a table there January 24.
Chester is free on bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 9.
