Tensions mount in Ottawa as police warn truckers to leave

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Police in Canada’s capital are telling protesting truckers who have paralyzed the city for more than two weeks that it’s time to leave. Meanwhile, the last of the truck blockades at the U.S.-Canadian border has come to an end. Authorities say the final blockaders have left Emerson, Manitoba, and the crossing into North Dakota has reopened. Now all of the attention in the protests over the country’s COVID-19 restrictions has shifted to Canada’s capital, where hundreds of trucks remain parked in the center city. Authorities in Ottawa are warning protesters that they are risking arrest.
