Police Catch Car Jacking Subject

On Monday, 01/24/22 at approximately 8:25 PM, The Dalles Police Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of West 2nd Street regarding a subject reported to be acting erratically. Upon arrival, Officers contacted an alleged victim in the area who reported that the subject of the prior complaint had just attacked him and stole his vehicle. Officers broadcasted the description of the vehicle on the police radio and began to immediately search for it in the area.

A City of The Dalles Police Officer located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver failed to yield to the police lights and a pursuit began. The Wasco County Sherriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police assisted with the pursuit which spanned through the west end of The Dalles and then up Seven Mile Hill into Wasco County. The suspect ultimately drove back into The Dalles.

After using specialized police equipment to safely deflate the suspect vehicles tires, officers were able to get the vehicle stopped in the area of 8th and Cherry Heights.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Wood (age 31). He was arrested and lodged at the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility on multiple charges including:
• Robbery in the first degree
• Attempted assault in the first degree
• Strangulation
• Attempted assault on a public safety officer
• Resisting arrest
• Attempting to elude a police officer

Close cooperation between area law enforcement agencies contributed to outcome of this dangerous case. Final charging decisions are at the direction of the Wasco County District Attorney’s Office.
