Man fatally shot in Seattle in recent gun violence spike

SEATTLE (AP) — Police say a man fatally shot a man who tried to rob him in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle early Tuesday. The Seattle Police Department says police were sent to investigate a shooting and found a man on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. The Seattle Times reports Interim Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said Tuesday that Seattle police have responded to 100 more cases of gunfire this year than this time last year. He also said 135 people have been killed or wounded this year. Diaz and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan in July announced $10.4 million in funding to community organizations for violence-prevention programs.
