Australian man escapes hotel quarantine by climbing out of fourth-floor window

There are lots of ways to avoid COVID-19 quarantine, if your mind’s set on it.  But using a rope made of sheets is an interesting approach.

A 39-year-old man did just that, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. After arriving in the city of Perth, the man reportedly failed to complete his application to meet the COVID-19 requirements of entry. As a result, he was scheduled on a flight back home and in the meantime was ordered to quarantine at a hotel.

But it seems the man had other plans. Around midnight, he lowered himself from the window of his fourth-floor room using a rope made of sheets tied together. Police didn’t find him until almost eight hours later.

According to the outlet, the man was charged with failing to comply with a direction and providing false or misleading information. He’s also being held until early August, when his 14-day quarantine period ends so that he can appear in court in person.
