Rep. Gina Mosbrucker, ranking Republican on the House Public Safety Committee, has been appointed by House Speaker Laurie Jinkins to serve on the Washington State Sentencing Guidelines Commission.
The commission, which consists of 20 voting members and four non-voting members, advises the governor and the Legislature on issues relating to adult and juvenile sentencing policies and practices and recommends modifications as necessary.
“It is an honor to be chosen to serve. Many impactful criminal justice policies considered by the Legislature often originate from the Sentencing Guidelines Commission. It’s important to have a balance that ensures fairness among those sentenced for their actions, carries out justice for the victims, and maintains public safety in our cities, communities, and neighborhoods,” said Mosbrucker, R-Goldendale. “I plan to bring that voice to this commission as we discuss critical issues of our state, such as drug sentencing under the Blake Decision, determining appropriate sentences that prevent recidivism, addressing mental issues, and seeking ways to ensure justice is served in all cases.”
The four legislators serving on the commission are non-voting members. Two are appointed from the Senate, two from the House, with one from each party in each chamber. The commission meets monthly.
