Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler today announced that Southwest Washington students will have the opportunity to participate in the 2021 Congressional App Challenge, an original app design competition for middle and high school students to put their innovation and STEM skills to the test in a region-wide competition.
“The Congressional App Competition is a great way to spark STEM-related skills and creativity in students. I’m excited to host this great competition once again, and I look forward to seeing what our creative app builders produce this year,” Herrera Beutler said.
The event is open to middle and high school students (grades 6-12) who either reside in or attend a school located in Washington’s 3rd congressional district. Students can choose to work individually or in groups up to four. The competition invites students to create software applications, or “apps,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice on any topic. The winners will be chosen from a group of judges made up of STEM educators and technology professionals from Southwest Washington.
Winning apps are eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building and featured on the U.S. House of Representative’s website, www.house.gov.
