DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — An Iranian ship believed to be a base for the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard anchored for years in the Red Sea off Yemen has been attacked. That’s according to an acknowledgment Wednesday by Iran’s Foreign Ministry. State TV separately acknowledged the assault, citing foreign media. The MV Saviz, in the Red Sea for years, is believed to be an armory and an intelligence-gathering base. The attack on it came as Iran and world powers sat down in Vienna for the first talks about the U.S. potentially rejoining the tattered deal aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program. It shows how events outside the negotiations could derail those efforts.
