Needing a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to force a third OT, the Cougars drove to the UCF 4-yard line, but Bear Bachmeier’s fourth-down pass to Walker Lyons fell incomplete, giving the Knights their first win over a top-5 team in school history. A week after knocking off then-No. 2 Notre Dame, BYU became the latest unbeaten team to fall in a wild few weeks of the college football season.

The team again conceded that using an email regarding the rings to train employees about cybersecurity was a mistake, though “reminding our employees to protect our IP was not.” It was the second straight day the NBA champions responded to criticism of their distribution of the jewelry the team earned after winning its first title since 1973, after a report by The Athletic about the process.
