A suspected shoplifter’s escape plan fell apart when his alleged getaway driver did exactly what he was supposed to do: he got away — but without his shoplifting buddy.
Police in Paramus, New Jersey say a 22-year-old man filled three rolling suitcases with nearly $2,200 worth of clothing from a Marshalls store before trying to flee. Officers say the suspect ran toward a waiting car, but the driver sped away before he got there. That led to a foot chase across busy Route 17, behind a car dealership, down an embankment and into a brook, where police made the arrest. Authorities recovered 56 stolen clothing items and charged the suspect with organized retail theft and other offenses. Police have not caught the getaway driver and it’s unclear whether they are pursuing him. (NJ.com)
