COLLEGE STUDENTS DONATE FRESH PRODUCE TO FOOD PANTRIES

College students at South Dakota State University are putting their gardening skills to work for a great cause, harvesting and donating thousands of pounds of fresh produce to help local families and classmates in need.

The campus farm — run entirely by student workers and managers — grows a mix of fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers, including carrots, tomatoes, watermelons, and leafy greens. So far this year, the hardworking crew has donated more than 2700 pounds of homegrown fruits and vegetables directly to local food pantries and campus support programs.

Beyond providing healthy meals to the community, the farm also gives students hands-on agricultural experience — and a unique chance to make a real difference in their own community.
