Firefighters in Palm Beach County, Florida, are having their pictures taken with shelter dogs for a charity calendar that helps local animals find forever homes.
The first run of the calendar last year was a huge success, resulting in plenty of buzz about shelter animals — as well as a $10,000 donation. This year, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Animal Care and Control have teamed up again for another full-color calendar. Firefighters and EMTs are stepping outside their comfort zones to model with adoptable dogs and cats.
“I am excited but a little nervous,” admitted firefighter Jose Besosa. “But it’s for a great cause.”
Organizers held a kick-off event for the calendar campaign over the weekend, allowing the public a chance to help decide which firefighter and dog duo will be featured in each month of the calendar. And everyone involved has high hopes, with a goal of doubling their fundraising total to $20,000 this year.
