The Emmy Awards are leaving traditional broadcast television for a streaming-only future. The Television Academy has reached a six-year agreement with Prime Video that will make the streaming service the exclusive home of the ceremony beginning in 2027. Viewers will not need a paid Prime subscription, with the show set to be available through Prime Video’s free, ad-supported offering. The move ends the Emmys’ longtime rotation among ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.
Steven Spielberg is taking a larger creative role in the Transformers franchise as Paramount Pictures develops an eighth live-action movie. Spielberg will executive produce and oversee the film’s creative direction alongside producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with the studio reportedly aiming for a tone closer to the franchise’s earlier installments. Shia LaBeouf is not expected to return. Meanwhile, the previously planned Transformers-G.I. Joe crossover is no longer moving forward. (Variety)
Jessica Biel has joined Playmates, an upcoming Searchlight Pictures film about the women who helped shape the Playboy empire. Biel will portray Kimberley Conrad, the 1989 Playmate of the Year who married Playboy founder Hugh Hefner that same year and had two sons with him before their eventual divorce. The film will explore the lives of Playboy Playmates and their experiences inside Hefner’s world. (Variety)
