Tesla recalls nearly 3M vehicles in China over door handle safety risks

HONG KONG (AP) — Tesla and other Chinese carmakers are recalling more than 4 million vehicles over safety concerns including risks tied to their door handles. Tesla’s recall is the biggest of all carmakers involved. It is recalling about 2.98 million vehicles, including Models 3, Y, X and S over door handle safety risks. This follows China’s announcement in February to ban hidden door handles seen commonly on Tesla and other Chinese electric vehicles starting next year. China has stepped up scrutiny on door handles of EVs following EV accidents where hidden electronic door handles failed to function and trapped passengers in the country and elsewhere. Other Chinese carmakers involved in the recall include Xiaomi, Geely, Leapmotor and XPENG.
