Google is building a new data center in The Dalles, or rather rebuilding an old one.
The very first one constructed was demolished after 16 years of service, and a new 77,000 square foot building is being constructed in the footprint of the original.
The interesting thing about the new building is that the company is not seeking any kind of tax break for this one, which will go on the rolls at 100 percent when it’s completed.
City Planning Director Josh Chandler, who approve the building permit on Monday, said the company was in a rush to build it and get it online, and that negotiating a SIP or Enterprise Zone agreement would take several months.
