Sharp eyes catch sharp object hidden in prosthetic leg at the airport

An off-duty law enforcement officer found themselves quoting Crocodile Dundee after spotting an airline passenger sticking a knife in their prosthetic leg.

The officer, who was traveling through the Honolulu airport on personal business, alerted Transportation Security Administration officers to what they saw. When the passenger was screened at security, the X-ray spotted the knife hidden in the prosthetic.

According to a TSA press release, the passenger was denied entry and removed from the security checkpoint.

“This incident is a powerful reminder that situational awareness is essential at every moment—not just during routine screening,” Hawaii TSA Federal Security Director Nanea Vasta says in a statement.

“We are also grateful for the partnership with our traveling public, whose alertness plays a vital role in our shared mission of safety,” the statement continued. “I am extremely proud of our officers for their dedication, teamwork and unwavering focus on keeping travelers safe.”
