Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after a federal judge barred Trump from using his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and subsequent settlement to claim extraordinary amnesty from investigations into the tax returns of himself, his family and their associated businesses.
“Today’s decision rightly calls Trump’s sweetheart audit immunity deal what it is: an obscene act of corrupt self-dealing that should never have been allowed,” Wyden said. “It is clear that Trump, his family and his business associates will stop at nothing to continue using the federal government and taxpayer dollars to enrich themselves and operate under a separate set of rules from everyday Americans who are struggling to get by. Next, Congress must hold Todd Blanche accountable for orchestrating this perversion of justice and swiftly reject his nomination.”
