The Dalles Mayors thoughts on what to do with some of the Google money

Story by Rodger Nichols for Gorge Country Media

The Dalles mayor Rich Mays, was the guest this morning on the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Affairs podcast. When asked what the city plans to do with the Google money, he offered some good news to water and sewer ratepayers about the massive costs that will be associates with upgrading the city’s 75-year-old water treatment plant.

“We are going to take most of that money and put it towards capital projects. Every city, when they do improvements to their water and sewer systems have to raise the fees to their residents in order to pay for those charges. No property tax money goes into that; it’s all through fees and charges. We’re going to be using a lot of the revenue from Google to offset the increases in charges for the water service and to the sewer services.”
